How to Download Twitter GIFs (They Save as MP4)

3 min read • Updated • SaveAnyVideo Team

Why X GIFs come down as small MP4 files, and how to save them in a couple of taps.

Every GIF you see on X is actually a short, silent video. X converts uploaded GIFs to MP4 because the files are far smaller and look sharper. That's why our downloader gives you an .mp4 file, not a .gif.

Save a GIF from a tweet

  1. Tap Share on the tweet and choose Copy link.
  2. Paste it into the Twitter video downloader and press Download.
  3. Pick the top quality. The file is usually under 2 MB.

Need a real .gif file?

Some chat apps and older forums only accept .gif. Open the MP4 in any free online video-to-GIF converter, or in your phone's Shortcuts or Gallery app if it offers “Save as GIF”. Expect the GIF to be several times bigger than the MP4.

TipGIFs on X loop and have no sound, so there's no MP3 option for them.
