Twitter Video Won't Download? 6 Common Reasons and Fixes
Protected accounts, sensitive media, deleted posts and more — what each error means.
Most failed downloads come down to one of a few causes. Here's how to tell which one you've hit.
1. The account is protected
If the account has a padlock, its posts are only visible to approved followers. Nothing outside the app can fetch them.
2. The video is marked as sensitive
Posts flagged as sensitive or age-restricted need a logged-in viewer. You'll see a “private or needs a login” message.
3. The tweet was deleted
If the post or the account is gone, the video is gone too. A quick check: open the link in a private browser window.
4. It's a live broadcast or a Space
Live streams and audio Spaces aren't regular videos and usually can't be downloaded while they're live.
5. You copied the profile link, not the post
The link should contain /status/ followed by a long number. Profile links (x.com/name) don't point to a single video.
6. X is limiting requests
At busy times X slows down outside requests. Wait a minute and try again — your link is fine.
